ROYAL EXCHANGE | Bamford Grooming Department

The intricacies of the modern high-street retail environment dictate that you tread carefully, and despite the fearless approach of George Bamford, his journey was no different.

Having operated for years from their Townhouse in Mayfair, the Bamford offerings have grown – in variety and in depth – resulting in the timely decision to bring the Bamford experience to other parts of London. Together with Carole Bamford, George recently opened his first store in one of the oldest shopping locations in London – The Royal Exchange.

I don’t like using the word “store”, as it’s not a “store” in the traditional sense of the word, rather more of an art gallery or an exhibition; a space where you can browse products without feeling sold to, while at the same time wanting time buy them.

Located outside The Royal Exchange at 33 Threadneedle Street, the listed space delightfully harbours some genetic characteristics of its previous incarnation as a tobacconist, which was established in 1851.

While this new store is fronted by the Bamford Grooming Department brand, what lies inside is a Bamford symphony, comprised of products from all facets of the Bamford brand. From men’s grooming products and super-luxury male accessories, to the latest Bamford Mayfair watches the intelligent space is all encompassing, and even features a watch-gallery of sorts in the basement, where the Bamford Watch Department will showcase some of its latest collaborations and where George himself will occasionally host one-on-one appointments.

The final embellishment lay in the window, where the latest collection from the Bamofrd Mayfair brand was unveiled – the Bamford Mayfair Miami Edition.

“For this series I was very keen to focus on how the watches are incredibly wearable, something you can take with you to the pool for instance. Rather than holding you back from having fun on holiday, these watches are a companion designed to enhance it with colours that appeal to all.”
~ George Bamford, founder of BWD

This new durable yet stylish favourite is back with more bright colours as the Miami Pack sees the range extend the colour choice to include greens, blues, orange – and hot pink.

As with most things Bamford, you can now find the Miami Pack in their new store at the Royal Exchange, or alteratively from luxury men’s e-tailer MrPorter.com.
