The Rio Olympics will (hopefully) be taking place this August, and as such all eyes will once again be cast firmly on Brazil. With this in mind we take a look at a residence by Ivan Rezende Arquitetura in Lagoa, Rio de Janeiro. With a large terrace overlooking spectacular views, the JMF Residence is a two-floor penthouse located between Rodrigo de Freitas Lake and Botanic Garden.
A key feature is the panoramic view of the city landscape and its landmarks; the construction emphasizing a visual permeability through the spaces, allowing the residents to enjoy their stunning surroundings regardless of how you choose to enter the house.
The pure lines created by solid white sections underline the blue of the sky and the green landscape, while highlighting the modernity of the project.
Contrasting materials of exposed concrete and polished marble were used on the exterior and interior of the house, giving a monolithic exterior and a cool interior.
Punctuated by a decor with current furniture and names from portfolios of artists from Rio’s gallery of Silvia Cintra, the project is elegant and functional.
The first floor uses mahogany boards for flooring, while the second floor is coated with Turkish travertine honed marble in the living room, dining room and in the 82m2 terrace – which conveniently has a barbecue area. One exception is the 9-meter swimming pool, which is finished with a turquoise Italian Bisazza mosaic, accentuating the blue of water while providing visual artistry.
One thing is for sure, stay here and regardless of the verdict on the Rio Olympics, you’ll have trip to remember.
