The Lexus LC 500 was originally unveiled at the earlier this year at the Detroit motor show, but in truth this modern rooftop garden in Amsterdam made for an altogether more appropriate setting, befitting of the car’s urban yet elegant aesthetics .
Lexus has given the LC 500 classic coupe proportions and produced an exterior design that projects an avant garde elegance, remaining faithful to many of the defining features of the LF-LC concept car that inspired it.
Set at the lofty Sky Lounge in Amsterdam, the car had to be lifted by crane – a spectacular sight in itself – to a bar located at the top floor of the Double Tree Hilton. Here, surrounded by the modern style and cuisine and fashion that the venue commands, the LC 500 is truly at home.
The LC 500 is a car you would drive to an Los Angeles mansion for a private party, or perhaps take for an extended road trip down the Amalfi coastline, with its graceful yet modern lines commanding the eyes of onlookers during the day and its striking visage punctuated with LED’s embellishing the night. Its younger ‘brother’ – the new Lexus LC 500h – uses a Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System, giving the same emotive performance as the LC 500 combined with greater efficiency under the ‘bonnet’.

The Multi Stage Hybrid Drive System is the first Lexus full hybrid system to provide an “M” transmission mode, allowing the driver to make direct and responsive gear changes and enjoy the most sporting and engaging drive yet from a Lexus hybrid. A new, lightweight and compact electric motor and lithium-ion battery offset the weight of the added automatic transmission, so the new system weighs the same as the current Lexus full hybrid system.
The launch event was centered around the concept of Creating Amazing, and that it most certainly did on multiple levels, as guests were graced with a euphony of traditional Japanese dishes, drinks and entertainment, thoughtfully combined with innovative modern additions; in much the way Lexus have done with the advancement traditional sports car in the Lexus LC 500 – truly amazing.
