The 570GT by McLaren Automotive

McLaren have long been known for their dynamic, high performance cars that have ‘wowed’ professionals and enthusiasts alike on the track. But while this new breed of McLaren road cars share the same design characteristics and have inherited the technological performance aspects of their forefathers, they represent a new dimension for the McLaren brand – The Sport Series.

Last year McLaren introduced the 570S Coupé and 540C Coupé as an introduction to the Sport Series family, and although these were more road-driving focused than previous models, they still had the hallmarks of a track car. Their latest model the McLaren 570GT is very much based around the concept of ‘everyday usability’ and is the most practical model ever released by McLaren Automotive, targeting longer journeys and weekends away.

The most luxurious and refined of any McLaren to date with a light, airy cabin upholstered and specified with the highest quality materials throughout. Side-opening rear glass hatch offers an additional 220 litres of storage on the leather-lined Touring Deck.

That’s not to say that it does not perform – the 570GT still does 0-62mph in 3.4seconds, it just gets you there in a more refined way.

It even has the luggage capacity to reinforce its status as a Grand Tourer, with 220 litres at the back, and 170 litres in the front; to put that in perspective, that’s more space than you would find in a Ford Focus. Somewhat surprising for a car that looks so dynamic – both in styling and in size. The Glass Hatch conveniently opens on the kerbside – whether left or right-hand drive – and is framed by carbon fibre to provide significant torsional rigidity.

A standard fixed glass Panoramic Roof provides a bright, open cabin running through to the large rear glass hatch creating the most luxurious and relaxing McLaren driving environment.

In addition to a whole host of technologies managed through the centrally-mounted touchscreen, lightweight noise absorbing and damping materials are used to line the Touring Deck and bulkhead, further enhancing the level of refinement within the cabin. Perfect for the ultimate road trip – at speed – the 570GT is priced from a moderately reasonable £154,000 in the UK, with first deliveries due to commence late in 2016.
