King of the Night
In what now seems a different Age, back in February Rolls-Royce followed up the unveiling of the latest Black Badge Edition in 2019 with a special photoshoot with photographer Mark Riccioni in Los Angeles.
His subject? The Rolls-Royce Black Badge Cullinan, specially equipped with a highly bespoke Urban Photography Recreation Module, and juxtaposed with fellow automotive subcultures in Greater Los Angeles as Riccioni drew parallels with the both genres’ infatuation with automotive detail.
“The things that connect us are always more powerful than the things that separate us, and this series is a wonderful demonstration of that. I selected each subculture because it shares the philosophies that inform the creation of a Black Badge Rolls-Royce. From the obsessive attention to detail lavished on a lowrider and visceral power of a hot rod to the bold execution of tuned imports and deeply personal customisations applied to ‘brat’-style motorcycles.”

The Urban Photography Recreation Module was designed in conjunction with Riccioni to incorporate specific equipment for his photography requirements, (including a DJI Mavic Mini drone, 12.9-inch Apple iPad Pro and 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro) along with other lifestyle pieces such as the Sennheiser PXC550 MkII noise cancelling headphones, Persol PO3225-S sunglasses and apparel from streetwear favourite Supreme.
In a body of work entitled ‘King of the Night’, Riccioni captures the intricately disparate nature of the bespoke vehicles; fine details giving each vehicle a unique personality yet at the same time a common ground.
