Le Beau Male by Jean Paul Gaultier

Le Beau Male by Jean Paul Gaultier

The focus of the Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male fragrances has always been on the sensuality and inherent sexuality embodied in the scent; a celebration of the ‘homme fatal’. The newest and all the more icy incarnation of the record selling Jean Paul Gaultier scent called Le Beau Male has now been unveiled.

JOSHUA’s opted to shoot Le Beau Male in an environment we felt befitted the scent contained within the newly hued statuesque bottle. The frosty, leafy surroundings reflect the refreshing yet somewhat icy scented ‘brother’ of the omnipresent Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male. This new scent hints at its predecessor but alludes to a rebirth, a clean sharper edition fragrance, distinctive and fresh.

“I want to show that men have sex appeal. Contrary to popular belief, being sexy is not just for women. Men should also be able to evoke desire.”– Jean Paul Gaultier1

Manipulated in every facet of its freshness, lavender is still the backbone of the fragrance. The dose of mint is doubled to accentuate its wet, cold facet, which is then enhanced by mugwort2, an ideal component of the masculine olfactory wardrobe. Sage is also doubled to contribute to this slightly jasmine-like freshness. The initial accord was based on the idea of redefining lavender to achieve an allegorical interpretation of vanilla.

“If I were to compare Le Male to a piece of music, Le Beau Male would be set to a rhythm free of bass tones, even more intense and profound” – Francis Kurkdjian, Parfumeur

For the Beau Male campaign shots, the photographer Solve Sundsbo was assigned the task of shooting the athletic Kaylan Falgoust as the face – and body – who exudes the essence of masculine sensuality while posing on the extravagance of a Polar bear rug.

The new design on the bottle – the inverse colouring to that previously seen on Le Male – is a further indication of the new frostier emphasis of the new scent, the white frosted glass alluding to the fresh fragrance contained inside. Even the signature tin continues the icy theme; the fragrance title ‘LE BEAU MALE‘ graffitied on the side much like a lover’s message on steam covered glass.

While it’s hard to choose between past and present, this new fragrance is essentially the antithesis of its former, making it all the more alluring as a stand alone scent. On smelling it, confusing familiarity is replaced with intrigue, leading us to believe that Le Beau Male is likely to become a success in its own right and – like it’s predecessor – a scent that’s still being talked about in 18 years. A real accomplishment.

Le BEAU MALE (75 ml – £39.50, 125 ml – £56.00) by Jean Paul Gaultier will be available nationwide from the 4th February 2013
