Maison Perrier-Jouët
There is an ever-burgeoning push towards greener attitudes in regards to our production, consumption and our appreciation for nature itself. Ostensibly the latter isn’t as consequential as the former two; after all, what is aesthetic compared to annihilation? Well, in this case, the two sentiments are inexorably linked.
MAISON PERRIER-JOUËT has a storied history of highlighting the beauty of nature. The champagne house, founded in 1811, is renowned for its intricate, floral iterations of the Chardonnay grape. A boutique house at heart, the Perrier-Jouët family was built on a profound love of nature and art – with a union of the two manifesting in beautiful bottles of champagne. This staunch championing of the natural world has permeated through the centuries and now, when the muse is under more threat than it has ever been, this historic house has created a gift of good taste and greener celebrations.
A new, fully recyclable eco-collection is Maison Perrier-Jouët’s first step towards full sustainability by 2022. Produced entirely from natural fibre – sourced from certified forests in Northern Europe – and embossed with water-based ink which is free from mineral oils, the box acts as a both a glorious ode and urgent statement piece. Not stopping at their own packaging, the house has even introduced recyclable shipping cases created from grass paper as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce its impact on nature – from the vineyard to the glass.
Inspired by the chalky soils of the Champagne region, the boxes are a stark white in design, with bare whispers of colour alluding to the infinite spectrum Mother Nature’s palette. They are then elegantly embossed with the brand’s legendary anemones.
Séverine Frerson, Cellar Master at Maison Perrier-Jouët, explains: “For more than two centuries, Maison Perrier-Jouët has maintained a symbiotic relationship with nature which we are incredibly proud of.
“Our founders, Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose-Adélaïde Jouët, were renowned for their keen interest in botany and for their progressive ideas on natural viticulture. Today, nature remains at the very heart of the House, and has provided the inspiration for this exquisite gift-box collection.”
They say life imitates art and art imitates life. In this case, the idiom is acutely literal — and there is no artist like Mother Nature.
Perrier-Jouët’s eco gift box collection is available globally at various retailers, including Fortnum & Mason (RRP: £47.50)
