MOVEMBER: THE BARBERSHOP
The month of November is in danger of being renamed in favour of the mighty and all consuming ‘Movember’ escalating in magnitude each year of its existence. This Crusade against male specific illnesses, has brought a camaraderie to its worldwide participants, with a knowing look, polite smile or abbreviated nod between fellow Moustcached gents enough to signify your kindred.
In the true spirit of this continual growth Gillette have teamed up with Movember to create a themed Barbershop providing free shaves to those that have taken up the moustache shaped cross. Following your masterful shave courtesy of the Adam’s or their resident Belles, there is also moustache wax on hand, courtesy of Penhaligon’s, to ensure you’re moustache is looking – and smelling – at its pliable best.
Almost as if in reflection of the soldier like mentality of those participating in Movember, the downstairs of the barbershop is like that of a military recreational mess, with a pool table as the centrepiece and blues emanating from the [imitation] turntable nonchalantly placed in the dimly lit corner of the room.
There’s no doubting that the Barbershop is an astute addition to Movember’s artillery, but while it’s all well to join in the celebration – and mockery – that inevitably comes with Movember, it is of vital importance we join in the most important part – the donation.
