HAKKASAN x CHINESE NEW YEAR
Chinese New Year is fast approaching, with official celebrations set to take place on February 19th. In the lead-up to one of the most significant dates in the Chinese calendar, diners at the Hakkasan Group’s London locations are invited to partake in an exquisite menu of food, specially prepared for the occasion, and also cast their wishes for the coming year through the ancient tradition of the ‘Wishing Tree’.
Hakkasan locations across the world will be partaking in the wishing ceremony, inviting guests to inscribe their hopes for the Year of the Sheep on specially designed wishing ribbons, before placing them throughout the restaurants during the festive period. At Hakkasan’s Las Vegas location, the group has taken the ceremony one step further by installing a grand scale wishing tree in the entrance to the restaurant.
The nine-dish menu created to celebrate Chinese New Year consists of small dishes ideal for sharing. To start, an indulgent dim sum platter – a particular favourite amongst guests – sits alongside spicy lamb lupin wraps and golden fried soft shell crab. Rich in flavour, the crab is enhanced with fragrant curry leaves and crisp egg yolk strands.
Mains continue the celebratory theme with grilled Chilean seabass in honey, stir-fry black pepper rib eye beef with merlot, and a further Hakkasan signature dish, spicy prawn, served in a smooth, piquant sauce. Interesting accompaniments to these mains include stir-fry lily bulb and garlic shoots, and abalone and dried scallop rice, a traditional dish served to bring good fortune and wealth to 2015. Completing the meal is the perfectly executed Kumquat Wishing Tree dessert, balancing sweetness, texture and bitterness to a pleasing degree through chocolate, caramelized macadamia and cocoa rocks. Cleansing the palette, the dessert is the ideal finale to the meal.
As a further mark of reverence for the traditions of Chinese New Year, each guest will receive a red envelope at the end of their meal, containing the gift of a complimentary cocktail, redeemable at any Hakkasan throughout the world. With additional celebrations set to take place at Hakkasan on February 28th, some may wish to wait before experiencing the Chinese New Year menu; but with the traditions already flowing throughout the restaurant we recommend a visit post-haste.
The Chinese New Year menu will be available until Sunday 1st March, priced £88.88 per person.
