Estrella Damm x Top 50 Gastropubs

Estrella Damm x Top 50 Gastropubs

The term Gastropub was coined in the early 2000’s by a few iconic establishments as a way to differentiate the “ordinary” pubs from those that offered good beer with equally as palatable food. Naturally this caused a stir within the food scene, but the somewhat dismay offered many budding chefs (professionally trained and not) a chance to share their offering within slightly more humble surroundings, while nurturing their skills. With a nod towards the community these up and coming pubs become focal points for food in some cases.

Forward on a few years and this idea seems to be the norm rather than the exception, with gastropubs becoming an essential part of most rising suburbs and the hub of country outposts. This climb in importance is by represented Estrella’s commitment to coveting pubs through the eye of their authentic, natural and local approach to beer making. Stretched across a 50 strong list the selection takes a look at the most notable locations across the UK.

Of note are the Coach, The Freemasons at Wiswell and the Star Inn at Harome. With that being said the overwhelming favourite was The Sportsman in Seasalter, Kent. Governed by Harris who is a self-taught chef who left London to open a local by the sea. The menu has strong hints towards the ocean, featuring a combination of fresh oysters as well as warming classics like slow cooked lamb it is as varied as it is quietly opulent. Pointing to a future where fine dining need not be defined by price.
