Paul Mathieu x

Willer Gallery

French educated and Los Angeles inspired, Paul Mathieu’s work was destined to have a taste that belies elegance with cross-cultural relevance. By ‘work’ I’m referring to his recent furniture collection exhibited at the Willer Gallery in London.

Debuting Mathieu’s Beam and Chateau lighting collections, as well an extended range of materials and finishes in the elegant Aria series, this new work embodies the spirit of his design.

Highly collectable Aria collection has gained international attention and recognition for its elegant shapes, as well as its innovative use of materials and collaborations with master craftsmen in France, Italy, and America.

The original Aria collection of hand-cast bronze was inspired by a commission to design liturgical furniture for an 17th Century church in Aix-en-Provence, however Mathieu’s interpretation sees the metals take undergo more formulaic, purposeful manipulation, on this occasion making its world debut in bronze.

“For the end user, I strive to help create beautiful and exceptional environments, in terms of feeling good about their surroundings. I want them to have a special piece of furniture that reflects and projects something inspirational.” ~ Paul Mathieu

Made by master craftsmen in Murano glass and originally designed by Mathieu for the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, the new Chateau standing lamps will also make their debut at Willer in London.

A coming together of two spatially astute minds, Rebecca Willer and Paul Mathieu have curated the dedicated space together in Willer’s adjoining gallery in London’s Kensington, accessible to the public from 14th March 2018.
