Such is the case of Sam Waley-Cohen, the amateur racehorse jockey who became a champion. Yes there have been many outstanding victors over the years, but Sam is different – for Sam horseracing is a hobby, he does it in his spare time. He isn’t paid to do it, he does it simply for the love of it.
In 2011, Sam Waley-Cohen became the first amateur jockey for 30 years to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup, doing so in a record time.
