We live in an age of innovation, and this wave of entrepreneurship & creation – among many things – has further served to engage our wonderment of brands that have stood the test of time, emerging unscathed through the vicissitudes of time, and so it is with Acqua di Parma.
This is a brand that has survived two world wars, collapsing economies and the assault of the technological world, yet still remains as relevant today as when the brand was created 100 years ago.
Acqua di Parma’s story began in 1916, where the brand released the now iconic COLONIA, a product representative of Italy at the time, essentially capturing the smell of “luxury” in a way that many have struggled to replicate ever since. Essentially a fresh, elegant melange of citrus notes, the Colonia opens with a Lemon and Sicilian Orange, before delivering the unmistakable woody base notes of sandalwood, patchouli and the noble vetiver.

Sterling Silver 925 (containing 92.5% pure silver) was the material of choice chosen by esteemed Italian goldsmiths Damiani, the prestigious jewellery brand charged with encapsulating the Art Deco Colonia bottle, representative of 100 years of Acqua di Parma history.
Entitled the Acqua di Parma Colonia Centenary Edition, the design is inspired by the décor of the Teatro Regio in Parma; and by the noble history of luxury perfumery in general. In the 1920s, it was customary, for aristocrats to display their favourite fragrances in ostentatious bottle holders made of silver and other precious metals, crafted by Italian master jewellers. These were considered objets d’art, to be handed down through the generations, much like real precious jewels.
Limited to 100 pieces, each Acqua di Parma Colonia Centenary Edition bottle features an engraved number which – like the silver hallmark – acts as a symbol of authenticity.
The Colonia Centenary Edition is priced at £750 and will be available exclusively in Harrods from October.
